What is it?
The CableShoppe's HVMS System is a rigorous set of tests done
on large quantities of modems simultaneously to ensure their
functionality in a field-like environment. This is no simple
Boot or RF test. The HVMS System ensures that each modem is
capable of transferring multiple pieces of data at appropriate
speeds under noise and other conditions similar to those found
in many customers' homes. These tests are available on a wide
variety of modems from the DOCSIS compatible models to proprietary
types such as Terayon's proprietary line and the Motorola
CyberWave/Surf line. Since modems are testing in large batches,
vast quantities can be tested within a short period of time
getting them back into the hands of the client, greatly reducing
the downtime of each individual unit so that it is in the
field making money, instead of costing money. |

Who uses it?
There are two main groups that find value in this service. One is Internet Providers responsible for maintaining modems in their customer's locations. These systems can be over Cable, DSL or Wireless technology as the modem is an integral part of each operation. These companies need to ensure that each modem sent out is capable of operating on their system, especially when deployed to new customers who are just forming an opinion of their quality of service. The other group is Modem Manufacturers themselves who want the Internet Providers that use their products to have somewhere to send them to ensure their quality. This keeps the Internet Providers happy with their modem purchases and improves repeat sales. |

Why are they using it?
The cost savings to Internet Providers using this system is
remarkable. Analysis of a data from one Provider during a
recent month showed that 1167 modems tested faulty in our
facilities. Of these, over 1000 passed a Boot Test but were
found faulty in other ways. Additionally, 180 also passed
an RF test yet were still found to be unacceptable to distribute
to customers. Had these faulty modems been sent out to the
field between the expenses of Customer Help Line Calls and
Onsite Technician Visits it would have cost them over
$50 000 if they had only done a Boot Test instead of using
the HVMS System and still nearly $10 000 even if they had
done RF tests on the equipment instead. This is for merely
one month. When you take into account customers who will become
dissatisfied with the service due to faulty modems being deployed
the costs to a medium sized Internet Provider could be in
excess of $750 000 a year. When it comes to money savings,
there can be no question as to why companies are choosing
The CableShoppe's HVMS System to ensure quality service in
their High-Speed Internet Divisions.
